I beg to apply to you to be so good as to move His Excellency The Governor to appoint me to the office of Colonial Surgeon, vacant by the resignation of Dr. Murray.
I have resided for nearly 14½ years in China, and have some knowledge of the manners and customs of the natives and native language.
In my letter when applying for the appointment, I expressed my willingness to do my best to the satisfaction of the Colonial Government, as stated in your letter 1.412 of 18th January 1870. I hope that His Excellency The Governor will be pleased to second my application.
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch of the 20 March 1871, enclosing an application from Dr. Dods to be appointed Colonial Surgeon.
